Cathy Maeola Cuffee answered the Master’s call to eternal rest on July 1, 2018. She was born December 17, 1947 to Cordelia Cuffee and the late Charles E. Cuffee. She grew up in the Longridge area of Chesapeake and was educated in the Chesapeake Public School system attending Crestwood High School. She received her Christian foundation at Gabriel Chapel AME Church under Reverend William Moore. She later attended St. Stephens COGIC under the leadership of Bishop Ted Thomas, Sr.
It can be said that Cathy never met a stranger. Her life personified Proverbs 18:24a: A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly. She had many circles of friends including a high school group who all kept in touch through life’s ups and downs until death took each of them. She was also part of a social club, the Disco Eight, made up of a group of friends she met when she moved to Virginia Beach. She was known to family and friends for her soft heart, million-dollar smile, capacity to be a true friend, love for cooking and just making you feel loved and special.
Cathy obtained her GED later in life as an effort to set a good example for her children and also pursued a degree at Tidewater Community College. Throughout her life, Cathy worked hard to provide for her family. She held positions as a hotel maid and school custodian, until she found positions that enabled her to couple her passion for cooking with providing for her family. These positions included biscuit maker, caterer and finally line cook at First Colonial Retirement Home, a position she held until her health began to fail. Not letting her failing health hold her back, she began providing childcare; another position that coupled a passion with providing for her family.
Cathy was predeceased by her one and only son, Marcus M. Cuffee; a brother, Charles A. Cuffee, Sr.; and a sister, Paulette J. Cuffee. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Pamela J. Cuffee and Chinina A. Olds both of Virginia Beach and Cheryl D. Fuller (Robert) and Bernice Cuffee both of Chesapeake; her mother, Cordelia Cuffee of Chesapeake; brothers, Donzell L. Cuffee and Jay A. Cuffee (Karen); sisters, Cordelia D. Cuffee, Sandra F. Cuffee, Bronzie A. Creekmore, Renee J. West (Marcus) and Helen Higgins all of Chesapeake; grandchildren, Kenneth, Aarron, Kenneshia, Marquis (Renea), Marshawna, Derron, Deshawn, Alonte, Robert, Robyin, and Desmond; great-grandchildren, Ace, Noah, Dash and Blakely; special cousin/son, Quinn Goffigan; bonus daughter, Michelle Daniels; special friend, Neoma Worlds; and a host of other relatives and friends.
