Delores Peterson Obituary

Delores Peterson accepted the Lord’s request to end her work in the ministry on earth and transition to Jesus’ promise of enteral life and peace on May 8, 2019 while at her home in Virginia Beach, VA with family. She was predeceased by her father, Willie “Nip” Outlaw; mother, Reather Davis; stepfather, Thomas Davis; brother, Willie “Bubba” Outlaw; grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins that she truly loved.

Delores was affectionately known by many names (Dee, Aunt Dee, Petey, and Mom); however, the name and title she was most honored and grateful to have was Evangelist.  At a young age, Delores accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior.  She joined Open Door C.O.G.I.C in Brooklyn, NY, where she along with her mother and stepfather were original members and the late Dr. Jerry Burns was the founding pastor.  Delores followed in her mother’s footsteps to become a laborer in the ministry and succeeded her as the Pastor’s Aide Leader for Open Door. She also served as the Church and Pastoral Secretary to Pastor Burns and the presiding pastor, Elder Bernard Taylor, until her move to Virginia Beach, VA in 2014.  After moving to Virginia Beach, Delores along with her husband joined Christ’s Tabernacle of Faith under the leadership of Bishop Claude Parham.

Delores was employed by the City of New York until 2010. She retired after 38 years of service as an administrative assistant and worked in that capacity for the Commissioner’s Office.  One of the things Delores enjoyed most at work was being involved in a spiritual group she helped to organize called the SCA & DDC Joint Fellowship Group.

Delores leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 45 years, Norman “BeBe” Peterson of Virginia Beach, VA; son, Jermaine Peterson (Arania) of Virginia Beach, VA; their children, Zahmeik, Nichelle, Zaire, Aniya-Lynn and Nyasia; daughter,  Natasha Peterson-Howell of Virginia Beach, VA; her children, Derek, Porstia and Michael; sisters, Mollie Gilliam (Leslie) of Colerain, NC; Earnell Bell-Holly (Taffie) of Willingboro, NJ; brother, Horace “Gene” Outlaw of Brooklyn, NY; stepchildren, Norman, Monica and Alonzo; great grandchildren, Ahonesty and Samir; sisters-in-law, Maggi, Joyce and Cassandra; and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, god children, spiritual sons and daughters.
