Frankie Mae Summerville answered the Masters’ Call to eternal peace on November 4, 2018. She was born June 24, 1937 to the late Nona V. Billups and John A. Lott in Woodsboro, TX. She was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd George Summerville, Sr.; son, Robert “Bobby” Allan Summerville; grandson, Corey Tatum; and two sisters-in-law, Doris and Faye Billups.
Frankie Mae was a graduate of Solomon Coles High School. She worked for over 45 years as a cashier at a plethora of businesses, most recently at Rite Aid for 20 years. She was a member of Plaza Baptist Church.
Frankie met and married the late Lloyd George Summerville in Texas and they eventually relocated to Norfolk, VA because of his new duty station at the Norfolk Naval Base. Later, the Summerville family moved to Virginia Beach, where they resided in the Windsor Oaks neighborhood. Frankie was known as the neighborhood mom and her door was always open. Frankie loved family gatherings and cookouts where she was always the life of the party and made sure everyone had a good time.
Frankie’s favorite past-times was sewing. She made all of her daughter, Sonja’s clothes including her prom dresses. While cooking and baking were also her passions, she received many requests for her stuffing and smothered pork chops; not to mention her banana pudding, sweet potato pies, pound cakes and potato salad. However, her true calling was caring for others. Although she didn’t have a formal daycare, she spent many years providing care for her grandchildren, great nieces and great nephews.
She leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter, Sonja L. Owens (Tim); three sons, Lloyd G. Summerville, Jr., Ricki Summerville, Sr., and Karmit Summerville; two brothers, George and Joseph Billups; five grandchildren, Trudy Jones, Nikeia Summerville (Andrew), Ricki Summerville, Jr., Robert Wilson and Reginald Owens; 16 great-grandchildren, Amir, Jakobe, Lauren, Jesse, Tyree, Saevion, Sade, James (London), Deontae, Ariyana, Stacey Jr., Chrystal, Byron, Nevaeh, Faith and Zaimya; two great-great grandchildren, A’miyah and Joyce; her oldest living relative, Zola Mae; special daughter-in-law, Faye Summerville; best friends, Rebecca McSweeney, Barbara Butler, Barbara Johnson and Mildred Coffer; and a host of other relatives and friends.
