Melba Sears-Davis Obituary

God called home our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Melba D. Sears-Davis on Wednesday, February 27, 2019.

Melba was born in Key West, Florida to the late Joseph and Grace Sears. She was a graduate of Douglas High School in Key West, Florida and attended fashion school in New York City. She loved being a Fashion Fair Lady where she could share her sense of style with others.

Melba was a Navy wife most of her life and she followed her beloved husband, MCPO Master Diver John B. Davis throughout the country.

She was the Chaplin of the Navy Wives Club in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. After thirty-six years of marriage, John went on to be with the Lord.

The most important thing to her was being a loving mother to her children. Together, her and John had three children, Phemya, Kiah and Shawn. She gave up a lot to stay home with them when her husband was away overseas or at sea.

Melba loved the Lord and taught her children to do the same. She attended Trinity Presbyterian Church when she traveled back to Key West. She also was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She loved her church and her Pastor.

Besides her parents and husband, Melba was preceded in death by one daughter, Phemya L. Griffin; brothers, James Sears, Alphonso Sears, Phillip Sears Sr., George Sears, Gillson Sears; sisters, Elease Moncur, Florense Gonzalez, Edna Sears, Theora Carey, Cora Lee Albury, Doris Taylor and Norma Gillespie.

Left to cherish her memories are her devoted children, Kiah B. Davis, Shafron “Shawn” Williams (Derek); grandchildren, Melthres Johnson, Sheila Cason (Cornelius), Martez Haynes, Beanca Gilyard, Da'Nita Williams and Isaiah Williams; great grandchildren, Cornelius Cason Jr., Arianna Johnson and Kameren Johnson; god children, George Randolph, Daniell Baez, TaTanisha Acklin, Armicka Miller, Arnold Miller Jr.; devoted nieces, Michele Lopez (Glenwood), Mona C. Clark; her adopted Cooper family; special friend, Leo Anthony; a host of nieces, nephews and friends whom she loved dearly.

We will remember our sweet Melba and she will be missed by all who saw her kind spirit and sweet smile.
