Robert G. Saunders

Robert “Stumpy” Garfield Saunders, 69, entered into eternal rest on February 4, 2019.  He was born June 16, 1949 in Farmville, Virginia to the late Barnette & Ruth Saunders. Robert was educated in the Campbell County school system in Rustburg, VA and transitioned in the US Navy at the age of 17.   He later retired with 21 years of service. Robert was a former 32nd degree Prince Hall Master Mason and was the first Vice Commander of George Washington Carver Post #81.  He loved antique cars, the New England Patriots and enjoyed the company of people.

Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by one sister, Shirley S. Lacy, and one brother, Roy E. Saunders, Sr.

Robert leaves to cherish his memory his lovely wife, Delphine Saunders; five children, Dwain A. Saunders of Virginia Beach, Donna K. Oliver (Ron) of Virginia Beach, Dominic C. Saunders (Anya) of Christiansburg, VA, Tyranesha Hughes of Virginia Beach, Shaniqua Hughes of Virginia Beach; four siblings, Audrey Pontarelli (Joey) of Arlington, VA, Judy Walker of Atlanta, GA, Alrita Leigh of Lynchburg, VA; Delphine Bell of Washington, DC.; one uncle, Roger Herndon of Rustburg, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends.
