Clem King Jr. Obituary

Clem Perry King Jr. - dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, in Virginia Beach, VA. Clem, known to most as “CP”, was born to the late Clem P & Ethel M. King in Rockingham County, NC on July 8, 1940. He was predeceased in death by 2 sisters, Anne Mae Spencer and Bernice “Bunny” Hemby; and 1 grandson, Elias McMillan.

Clem graduated from Booker T. Washington HS, in Rockingham County, NC. He obtained an Associate’s Degree from A&T University in TV and Radio Engineering, prior to being drafted into the US Army. He served two years on active duty and four years in the reserves. Clem settled in New Jersey, where he met and married the love of his life, Lola Mae. Together they raised 5 children and enjoyed a long life together of 54 years.

Clem retired from Driver Harris Co., in Harrison, New Jersey in 1986, when he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Although his disease had him wheel-chair bound for over 25 years, he remained the strength and glue of his family. He enjoyed playing solitaire, Bid Whist, and Farmville on Facebook. He loved sports and all the NJ-NY teams. However, spending time with family and friends was the joy of his life. Clem was an avid bowler and could sit listening to music for hours. He was a faithful supporter of charitable foundations, like the Breast Cancer Foundation, Police Benevolent Associations, the Fire & Safety Foundations, and the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, to name a few.

Clem and Lola called New Jersey home for nearly 40 years. In 2010, they decided to leave the Garden State and relocated to Virginia Beach, VA. What better place to spend their glory years, than in the State for Lovers! No matter the situation or his condition, Clem never murmured a complaining word. He was happiest when simply laughing with family and friends. He loved his grandkids, often riding them up and down the hall on his wheelchair. He was always smiling, and saw the positive side in everything. To him, the glass was always ½ full, or overflowing.  He had a generous heart with a beautiful soul. His life was a testament to all, that knew him.  In 2014, he joined New Genesis Baptist Church of Virginia Beach and was a member of the Senior Ministry. He loved being apart of “the New”, and worshipping with his son and family.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his life-long partner and wife, Lola Mae King; 5 children, Sylvester McMillan (Treniece), Ida “Yvette” Hailey (Reco), Darron King (Pierrette), Charemon “Cheryl” King-Sims (William “Patrick”) and Michael King (Montsho); 12 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Marjorie Tuck, Queen Jones and Doris Scott; 3 brothers, James King (Janie), George King (Emma) and Ernest King (Janice), his New Genesis church family; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
