Depressa A. Smith, 86, of Virginia Beach, VA, left this earth on Friday, January 22, 2021 to join her heavenly father. Depressa was born on September 23, 1934 to the late Henry and Elizabeth Burgess in Dillon, SC and was raised in Trenton, NJ.
Depressa was educated in the New Jersey public school system. She furthered her education by obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from the Mercy Douglass School of Nursing, Philadelphia, PA and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Trenton State College, Trenton, NJ. Depressa was a Registered Nurse and a Public Health Inspector for the State of New Jersey. After she retired, she moved with her family to Virginia Beach, VA. Depressa was a committed member of the Bible Study Fellowship International Organization (BFS). She loved vacationing, collecting light houses, trying out new restaurants, sewing and studying God’s word. Depressa’s most fulfilling moments was spending precious time with her family and friends. She also was blessed to be a 30-year breast cancer survivor.
Besides her parents, Depressa was predeceased by one sister, Barbara Burgess.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, John H. Smith Sr.; three children, John H. Smith Jr., Lisa Billups (Norman Jr.), Lori Smith; eight grandchildren, Tiffany Smith, Breon Smith (Shameka), Terrance Young, Brittny Curry (Cameron), Brashawn Smith-Perry Sr. (De’Asia), Norman Billups III, Christopher H. Billups, Brooke Smith; ten great-grandchildren, Maliki Smith, Anasia Curry, Taraji Young, Amari Curry, Myles Reyes, Terrance “TJ” Young Jr., Xavier Smith, Kingston Garner, Brashawn Smith-Perry Jr., Alianna Curry; one brother, Henry “Sonny” Burgess (Jean), and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
