Eddie James Simmons was born in Jacksonville, FL to James Simmons and Lossie L. Gilmore on July 24th, 1954. He peacefully departed this life on Friday, September 17, 2021. He is remembered by many as a man of humility, integrity, compassion, and great love. He never met a stranger; and a friendship with him meant you had a lifetime confidant.
Eddie attended Susie Tolbert elementary school, Northwestern Junior High, and Raines High School. All of Jacksonville, Fl. Upon graduation, he attended Florida A&M where he was a member of the Marching 100’s “White Whales” tuba section. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy where he served his country for the next 21 years, stationed on the submarine USS Grayling and submarine tender USS L.Y. Spear.
It was his honor to serve the body of Christ. He served 35 years at his churches, Word of Life and Forever Grateful Ministries. At his passing, he held the title of Elder, however, many met him when he was an usher, joyfully, escorting members to their seats. He served as Sound Technician, Pioneer Boys leader, Christian Youth Athletics Softball Coach, and church Youth leader. There was no role too big or too small, all he desired was the opportunity to serve with humility and love.
He was a devoted husband and best friend to his wife, Londa of 45 years, a super Dad to his cherished children Tamika Lashon Simmons, Shauna Jeanese Simmons, Kendra Charmaine Simmons and Laurence Edward Alexander Simmons (fiancée LaKishua Frasier). He was beloved “Dad-Dad” to grandchildren Collin James, Gabrielle Rae, Victoria Alexis, and Madison Symone. Eddie is also survived by his loving siblings sister Patricia A. Scott (Thaddeus), brother, Larry W. Simmons, and sister Virginia E. Simmons, all of Jacksonville, Fl. He is also survived by his uncle, Earnest Gilmore of Ft. Walton Beach, FL. and cousin, Lynard Simmons (Freda) of Charleston, SC. He also leaves behind a host of many dearly beloved cousins, nieces and nephews, godchildren, and friends, especially best friends Hank Long and Roy Riddick.
