Hattie "Virginia" Rawls Obituary

On Sunday, September 5, 2021, God whispered in the ear of His beloved child and He said, my precious Angel, it is time to come home. I have prepared a special place for you. Hattie Virginia Rawls walked into the arms of God and departed this earthly life to be with her heavenly Father.

Born April 15, 1933 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Hattie known to most as Virginia or Aunt Ginya, was one of five children born to the late George Roger & Fannie Lee Lundy. Virginia married the late Herbert C. Cornick, Jr. at a young age. Five daughters were born from this union. Virginia later on in life met and married the love of her life, the late Harold Washington Rawls, Sr. who was instrumental in the lives of her daughters.

Virginia was a product of Princess Anne County schools in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She served and worked mightily as a Civilian Accountant for the U.S. Navy Exchange for many years prior to retirement.

Virginia loved to cook and travel. She was extremely friendly and outgoing and served in her younger days in the EBC Missionary Choir. Virginia looked forward to the Seniors Tuesday ministry activities before her illness prevented her from attending.  Virginia was also active and served on various ministries of First Baptist Church, Bute Street, where she and husband “Rawls” were members for many years. As a proud member of the St. Alethia Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Stars, Virginia exercised her God given gifts of leadership and hospitality.

She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, daughters, Bernadine Sanderlin and Marcella Cornick and other very close relatives.

Virginia leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters, Cindy Brown and Lori Gregory (Paul) of Virginia Beach and Arlene Skinner (Darryl) of Chesterfield. Three granddaughters, Avis Middleton (Terrence) of Portsmouth, Brittany Hayes of Virginia Beach and Abria Carter (Willie) of Montgomery, AL. Three grandsons, DeRon Brown of Los Angeles, CA, Terrell Hayes of Virginia Beach and Derrick Sanderlin of Chesapeake. One sister, Ada Logan of Virginia Beach; great grandchildren; great, great grandchildren; nieces; nephews and a host of other close family and friends.
