Jack Cooper Obituary

On the night of April 29, 2021, Jack G. Cooper quietly slipped away for a peaceful rest. He was the husband and father we loved but, God loved him more.

Jack G. Cooper, 75, was born February 25, 1946 in Norfolk, VA to the late Richard Cooper and Mary Lamb Cooper. He was educated in the Virginia Beach Public School System and a graduate of Union Kempsville High School, Class of 1964. Jack served in the U.S. Army and after being honorably discharged, he continued to be a proud Veteran and Teamster. He was employed by Atlas Van Line for a number of years and retired from Roadway Trucking Company after many years of service. Jack coached recreational basketball for many years and was an avid Norfolk State University fan. He loved football and tailgating. His favorite NFL team was the Miami Dolphins. He loved to entertain his family and friends by having cookouts, where he fried the best fish, chicken wings and hush puppies in the world. He loved to garden and give away his fresh produce. He visited the sick and shut-in and often took them their favorite treats. He was a mentor to the boys and girls in the communities where he lived. Jack was a people person who never met a stranger and was always willing to help any and everyone. He was definitely the life of every party. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Richard Cooper, Floyd H. Cooper Sr. and Albert F. Cooper; Sisters-In-Law Addie Cooper and Yvonne Joyner; his father-in-law Jesse Joyner Sr. and his mother-in-law Mary Lee Etheridge Joyner.

Jack leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Earnestine Joyner Cooper; Sons Reginald Cooper (Ashley), Roderick Cooper (Kelly); 7 grandchildren: Kiana, Raekwon, Tiara, Jacob, Trey, Leighley and Ryleigh; Sisters-In-Law Hazel B. Cooper, Alice Cooper, Cynthia Joyner and Patricia Joyner Jones (Carlton); Brothers-In-Law Jesse Joyner Jr. (Patricia), Spencer Joyner (Jan); Special niece/daughter Lisa Cooper Lewis (Johnnie); several other nieces and nephews who loved him dearly, along with a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
