Mildred Holmes Obituary

“God saw you getting tired, a cure was not to be; so he put His loving arms around you and whispered, come to me. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands put to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best.”

Mildred Holmes, 78, passed away peacefully & quietly at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital on April 1, 2021. Mildred was born in Princess Anne County on January 4, 1943 to the late Deacon Charlie & Sister Mildred Willie.

She retired from Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after several years. Mildred was a lifelong member of the United House of Prayer for all People-Burton, Va. Beach. She was a member of the Gospel Choir and worked in the House of Prayer kitchen. At one time she was married to Andrew Holmes.

Mildred was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend. She was greatly loved and respected by all who knew her. Mildred enjoyed life and loved to talk and laugh. She loved all of her family and her family loved her.

Besides her parents, Mildred was predeceased by two brothers, Elisha Willie, Abner Willie; three sisters, Beatrice Willie, Louvenia Willie Wynn and Sarah Lee Goodman.

She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Lawrence Willie; daughter, Gwendolyn Gregory; five brothers, Deacon Charlie Willie, Jr., Joshua Willie (Linda), Elder Elijah Willie (Bessie), Elder Tom Willie (Sandra), Allen Willie; two sisters, St. Barbara Smith (Joseph), St. Louise Willie; sister-in-law, Sister Barbara Jean Willie; two aunts, St. Lola Elliott, St. Vivian Willie; special nieces & nephews who she loved dearly and babysat for, Paris Willie, Jermel Willie, Isaiah Willie; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Sister

S – Spirit: Mildred knew about the Holy Spirit, she always praised the Lord.

I – Inspired: Mildred always inspired people with a smile.

S – Stand: For the two sisters that loved her and she loved us.

T – Time:  For the years that God allowed her to be with us.

E – Energetic: Full of laughter, a big smile and kept an upbeat spirit.

R – Return: God allowed her to come back to him, to suffer no more.
