Sarah Wright Obituary

Sarah Rebecca Wright born March 19, 1928, went to meet the Lord on January 29, 2020.  Born in Richmond, VA she was preceded in death by her father, Allen Lee Briggman, her mother, Virginia Wright Briggman and her only sister Helen Hinton.  She was a 1945 graduate of Armstrong High School in Richmond and attended Virginia State College from 1948 to 1950.  She left college to travel with her husband, who was a member of the U.S. Navy.  After traveling to Japan, Okinawa, Formosa and living in San Diego for 15 years, she returned to Virginia in 1966.  Upon returning to the Hampton Roads area she entered Virginia State College, Norfolk Division in 1966 and graduated in 1970 from the newly named Norfolk State College.  She also attended Old Dominion University where she completed three semesters of graduate work in Counseling and Guidance and began employment at the Virginia Employment Commission where she worked from 1970 to her retirement in 1988.

Upon retiring, she worked as a substitute teacher for the Norfolk City Public Schools and the Virginia Beach Public Schools. She even found the time to pledge and become a member of the lovely of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. on May 2, 1992, Beta Theta Zeta Chapter where she served as Publicity Chairperson, Recording Secretary, Treasurer and the State of Virginia Neurology Chairperson.  She was honored by her sorority and chosen Zeta of the Year and an Unsung Hero.  She and her husband of 70 years spent many years as members of the Good Sam Camping Club and traveled on the many U.S. highways and byways in their RV seeing the historic sites with grandchildren in tow.

Her home, for many, was the place to be because there you found love, compassion, truth, listening ears, powerful wisdom and delicious food. Sarah embraced the Holy Spirit of God and never missed an opportunity to give back. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing, dancing, and reading to her heart’s content.  Music, laughter and love are guaranteed.  Where the food is delicious, and you never gain an ounce.  She left detailed instructions for her family and friends to celebrate her mission here, which is now completed.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Benjamin L. Wright, Sr.; her children Benjamin L. Wright, Jr. (Wanda); Stephanie Wright Jones; Michelle Renee Wright; grandchildren Demetrious Jamal Jones, Deearah Wright Wiley (Stephan); Kaleeta Wright McDade (Richard); Benjamin L. Wright III; Tandra Shipp Roberson (Dave) and Dr. Chastity Shipp; great grandchildren Jayden Wright, Faithlyn Quinones Morrison, Naomi Elizabeth Fraser Jones, Dahlia  Wiley, Savion Wiley, Zora McDade, Harlem McDade and a plethora of relatives and dear friends.
