Shirley Lavitia Murray

Shirley Lavitia Murray, 84, was born on December 14, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Carlotta Small. She was best known as “Shirl World”, “Mommy Shirl”, and “GG” by her grandchildren. She was the epitome of what LOVE is to her family and friends. Everyone was welcomed into Shirley’s home and she loved to cook and feed people. When she was not cooking she loved to sew. She also enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows, such as westerns, Murder She Wrote, Law and Order, and Texas Ranger. Shirley loved music and her favorite singers were Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Fantasia. Shirley had certain sayings and songs that would be forever endeared and remembered by her children.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Cecil Murray; 3 brothers, Johnnie, Arthur, and Vernell; 2 sisters, Alma and Gwendolyn; 2 sons, Brian Troy and Jeffrey Mance; daughter, Jacqueline C. Smith and grandson, Tyree Manuel.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memories, 10 Children: Robert Jerry (Kim), Christine Harris (James), Kimberly Jerry-Collins (Raymond), Nadine Smith, Arthur Smith, Derrick Smith (Sheila), Tyra Williams (Dereck), Wayne Dowling (Jenine), Ara Davis, Cyril Murray; 20 Grandchildren: Kevin, Sheresse, Tamara, Tanya, Tameka, Troy, Shanique, Tymel, Shaqueen, Shanee, Taron, Christina, Dereka, Brandon, Dereck (Katie), Tyjé, Adrienne, Allyson, Ismail, Isaiah; Best friends: Janet Hawkins, Patsy Johnson, Bea Walker; Godchildren: Danee and Queenie. 20 Great-Grandchildren, nieces, nephew and friends; Caregiver: Lakeya Goffigon.
